Sa Calobra starts where the road ends: at a small cove on Mallorca's north-west coast, hemmed in by cliffs. From the water the road climbs straight back out, 10.1 km and 707 m to Coll dels Reis. There is no other way out of the cove, so every rider who goes down has to climb back up.

It is one of the most photographed roads in cycling. The tarmac folds over itself in a string of hairpins, and near the top it loops under itself in a full knot. Riders come from all over Europe every spring to time themselves on it.

The gradient barely changes. Around 7% from the bottom to the top, with no flat sections to recover on and no descents to steal time back. That steadiness is what makes it hard. You find a rhythm early and hold it for most of an hour. It is a long effort at any power, and a test of patience as much as strength.

In Atlas Indoor you ride the real road, corner for corner, with the gradient sent to your smart trainer. Use it to rehearse before a Mallorca trip, to benchmark your climbing through the winter, or to chase a ghost of your own best ride up to the top at 723 m.

How to ride Sa Calobra climb indoors

Start slower than feels right. The first two kilometres tempt you to push, and you pay for it in the knot near the top. Aim for a power you could hold for an hour, stay seated through the hairpins, and save anything left for the last kilometre to Coll dels Reis.
