Connect your trainer
Atlas Indoor talks to your smart trainer, power meter and heart-rate strap over Bluetooth. Here’s where it works, how to connect, and what to do when something won’t.
Where it works
- Chrome or Edge on a computerWindows, Mac or Chromebook. Connect straight from the ride screen.
- Chrome on an Android phone or tabletWorks the same way as on a computer.
- iPhone and iPadOpen Indoor from the Atlas app. Connect your trainer in the app’s Sensors screen and the ride uses it.
- Safari and FirefoxThese browsers can’t use Bluetooth. Switch to Chrome or Edge, or use the Atlas app.
Connect in five steps
- Plug your trainer in and pedal a few turns to wake it up.
- Close Zwift, the Wahoo or Tacx app and any other app that might be connected to it. Most trainers only talk to one app at a time.
- Disconnect it from bike computers and watches too, or switch them to ANT+.
- On the ride screen, press Connect next to Smart trainer and pick it from the list. It shows up under its own name, such as KICKR CORE, Tacx NEO 2T or DIRETO XR.
- Add a heart-rate strap or power meter the same way. Next time they appear under Recently connected.
Your trainer
Any trainer with Bluetooth FTMS works, and so do older Tacx and Wahoo trainers that use their own protocols. Climbs change the resistance on all of them.
- Wahoo KICKR, CORE, SNAP, MOVE and BIKE
- Connects up to three apps at once. If resistance doesn’t change, update the firmware in the Wahoo app.
- Tacx NEO (every model), Flux, Flow and Vortex
- Usually connects to one app at a time. Firmware updates are in the Tacx Training app.
- Elite Direto, Suito, Justo, Avanti and Zumo
- Firmware updates are in the My E-Training app.
- Zwift Hub and Zwift Ride
- Close Zwift first. Firmware updates are in the Zwift Companion app. Zwift’s own virtual shifting only works in Zwift; use Atlas’s virtual gears instead.
- Saris, Wattbike, Stages, JetBlack, Magene, Van Rysel and others
- Any trainer that lists Bluetooth FTMS works. On Wattbike, the app that connects second takes control.
If something goes wrong
- My trainer isn’t in the list
- Another app or device is probably connected to it. A trainer that’s already connected stops showing up. Close the other app, then turn the trainer off and on again.
- It connects, but the resistance doesn’t change
- Update the trainer’s firmware in its maker’s app, and check that nothing else (Zwift, a bike computer) is controlling it.
- My Tacx won’t pair
- Newer Tacx firmware uses secure pairing. Press the trainer’s pairing button, or turn off Secure Bluetooth Connections in the Tacx Training app.
- The power looks wrong
- Run a spin-down calibration in the maker’s app. On a wheel-on trainer, check your tyre pressure too.
- It keeps dropping out
- Keep the computer or phone within a few metres of the trainer. Atlas reconnects on its own and keeps your ride going.
- It’s unreliable on Windows
- Don’t pair the trainer in Windows Bluetooth settings; let Chrome connect to it directly. A USB Bluetooth adapter close to the trainer helps.
