Puig Major is the highest mountain on Mallorca, and the road that climbs beside it is the longest climb on the island. From the orange groves of Sóller the Ma-10 winds up for 15.5 km to the tunnel near its summit, climbing 837 m to a high point of 846 m.

It is a climb of two halves. The first 10 km average a little over 5%, a long and steady pull through the pine forest with views back down to Sóller and the sea. The last 5 km are steeper, at over 6%, and come when your legs are already tired. That is where the climb is won or lost.

There is no shame in finding it hard. At a steady 200 W most riders need more than an hour to reach the top. It is the closest thing on the island to a long alpine climb, and it is the best route in Atlas Indoor for building climbing endurance.

In Atlas Indoor you ride every hairpin of the real road, with the gradient sent to your smart trainer. Rehearse it before a spring training camp, test yourself against your own ghost, or turn it into a long threshold workout with the climb doing the work.

How to ride Puig Major from Sóller indoors

Ride the first 10 km at a pace that feels easy for the first half hour. The gradient steps up after 10 km, and the final 5 km at over 6% are where you need your strength. If you still feel good with 2 km to go, that's the time to push.
