In the north-east corner of Mallorca, the town of Artà sits beneath a castle on a hill. North of the town, a narrow road climbs into wild, rocky hills towards the Ermita de Betlem, a small hermitage looking out over the bay of Alcúdia. It is one of the least ridden climbs on the island, and one of the most rewarding.

The route is short but hard. After a gentle first section of about 3 km at just over 2%, the road steepens to more than 5% for over 3 km, climbing to a high point of 374 m. From there it drops to the hermitage. In all, it is 8.6 km with 277 m of climbing.

Atlas rates it hard, mostly because of that second climb, which is steeper than anything that comes before it. It is a great route for a quick, hard session: a warm-up on the lower road, then one solid effort of 10 to 15 minutes. Few riders know it, which is part of its charm.

In Atlas Indoor you ride the real road in 3D, with your trainer following every change in gradient. Ride it as a short climbing test, or repeat it to build a full workout with real terrain under your wheels.

How to ride Artà and Ermita de Betlem indoors

Use the first 3 km as your warm-up, at an easy tempo. When the road steepens after about 4 km, settle into a strong, steady effort and hold it to the top. Then relax on the drop to the hermitage.
