This is the ride you do when you want the sea on your shoulder and nothing too steep. From Nerja the road heads west along the Axarquía coast, past beaches, small headlands and the resort strip at Torrox Costa, to the fishing town of El Morche.

It is never flat for long. The road follows the shape of the coast, so it rises over every headland and drops back to every beach. None of the rises last, and the highest point on the whole route is only 82 m above the sea. The 328 m of climbing comes in short bites rather than one big effort.

That makes it one of the best routes in Atlas Indoor for steady endurance work. You can hold a smooth tempo for an hour, practise riding over small rises without spiking your power, or use it as an easy spin the day after a hard session. It is also a good first route if you are new to riding indoors.

Every metre is built from a real ride, so the rolling rhythm you feel through your trainer is the rhythm of the road. Ride it alone, set a computer pacer to hold you honest, or bring your club for an evening group ride along the coast.

How to ride Coast road to El Morche indoors

Pick a steady power and hold it. Change gear early as each small rise starts so your cadence stays smooth, and don't chase speed on the short descents. The longest drag comes in the final 3 km, so keep a little in reserve for the run home.
